Dig the New Breed: The Best New Bands Hitting the Scene Pt.3

It has been quite a while since I've updated my blog, College got in the way. But I intend to get back to a weekly update schedule again and keep the blog well maintained. Now, where were we?

Aloe Blacc

Known mainly for his vocals on Avicii's "Wake Me Up" and his commercial hits "I Need A Dollar" and "The Man", Aloe Blacc has brought back a soulful sound to the charts with his two latest albums "Good Things" and "Lift Your Spirit". Starting out in the indie hip hop scene in and around California, he mixes the sound of neo-soul with more contemporary hip hop and pop to make a blend that is irresistible to any music fan.

Eli Paperboy Reed

After traveling from Massachusetts to Mississippi and diving into the world of Soul and R&B, Eli Paperboy Reed has crafted 4 fantastic albums that should hold a spot in every Mods record collection. If you like a mix of American Gospel and some hard rocking blues you'll definitely want to check him out,

The Electric Mess

Getting back to the home turf.  The Electric Mess are just that, a delightful mess of electric Garage rock that will leave you fried, in a good way. With 3 albums out and a good live presence around Brooklyn be sure to give them a listen!

Lake Street Dive

Self described as if The Beatles and Motown had a party, these  Bostonians turned Brooklynites have created an incredibly masterful blend of soul and pop with their 3 major releases. With a saturated touring schedule and what seems like endless energy Lake Street Dive will no doubt continue to pump out incredible tunes.

St. Paul and the Broken Bones

St. Paul and the Broken Bones is the go to example when people say music just isn't the same. It is, and might even be better. I can't express enough praise for this group, exploding on stage with their Soul and Gospel infused sound straight out of Alabama, these guys take the energy of Otis Redding and channel it into what is undoubtedly one of the tightest groups out there now. Check them out.

I apologize again for my long absence, but I'm back, and I will be running an hourly Mod Radio show at SUNY Purchase on our Student Radio program, so that's something to look forward to as well. I'll post something about that as soon as I can, thank you for reading and keep the faith!
